Bridge Lights

Bridge Lights

In preparation for the celebration of the sesquicentennial anniversary of the City of Grand Rapids, a group of citizens was formed to consider a major project that would highlight this historic event. Chaired by a young attorney who would later become Mayor, the committee developed an ambitious plan to create a River Walk along the Grand River downtown. As part of this project, plans also called for the permanent lighting of all of the bridges spanning the River that led into the downtown area.  MAI was invited to spearhead the development and implementation of marketing and fundraising plans for the project. In retrospect, few would have realized how this project would change the “landscape” of downtown and transform one of its natural resources into an iconic feature of the city.
